I didn’t know. I will have to redeem myself this weekend.

No offense to the proud Wisconsin company and John Gillespie’s best friends, but if I’m celebrating Bratsgiving, it’s not gonna be with Johnsonville. smile

Nothing wrong with Johnsonville. Yes, local meat markets are better but you can find these buggers everywhere and they cook up well. I do like Mackenthuns in St Boni but I live nowhere near there.

Nothing against them specifically, but usually when I grill up any mass-produced brat, I got an inch of bun on either end. Should be the other way around.

If Im doing the grilling, I buy other brats (try to get Miefelds out of Sheboygan usually).

If someone else is grilling, I dont mind whatever they are cooking generally

As long as it isn’t the precooked johnsonvilles they are just fine.

I’ve tried other store-bought brands (Cub, Costco, Sams), but nothing is as good as your standard Johnsonville. For those hating on Johnsonville, what is your recommended alternative?

Just had some Grundhofers brats tonight. They have like 100 different flavors or something crazy. Jalapeño Popper is one of my favorites.

The standard Johnsonville is just too course ground for me. If going Johnsonville I actually prefer their precooked, Stadium or Beer brats.

    Durand Smokehouse Brats.

Small tiny spot about 30 minutes from our place, and I’ll never buy another brat elsewhere. I buy 15-20 packs at a crack with no regrets.

Which brats specifically? I wonder if they ship

I make my own. Now THIS is the correct proportion of meat to bun! cool
(Technically not a brat, but I make those too)

The woman’s family is close with Spencer, the owner of grundhofers. We are always fully stocked with brats. She goes there and he won’t ever except her money.
The wild rice brats are awesome

Grundhofers is awesome. Flicker meats in White Bear has good ones. Honestly any butcher shop should have great sausage compared to precooked. I personally like coarser ground sausage which is why I don’t enjoy the precooked stuff.

I am a big fan of the pineapple brats from the local butcher shop. cuts the salty flavor with the sweet and is just right. seen some pretty crazy flavors but pineapple is as extreme as I get.

We have a store by us called Geiss meats and they make a smoked brat that has won some awards. They are excellent over a campfire.
