We are looking into getting a Handheld Vhf Radio. Anyone have any preference on brand or model to go with?

What are you going to use it for? Keep in mind you’ll be able to hear a lot further than you can talk.

I’ve had a couple Standard Horizon’s that worked well. Good warranty as my first one needed a new display. Cost me shipping one way.

You might want to check with Ben at JollyAnn Marine and see what he has for prices. He’s normally pretty darn good.

I’ve had a Uniden Atlantis handheld for years and it’s worked great. I can’t see spending a lot more on a handheld because the limiting factor on all of them is going to be the range.

Whatever radio you get, you have to study how to use it so you know what you’re doing. What channels do you need to use for what purposes, etc. This is NOT a free for all like a CB and no, channel 19 is NOT a generic frequency everybody uses.

Write the frequently-used channels on the back of the radio with a sharpie.
