I am looking for opinions on a hand held gps. Im not looking to bust the bank. I dont need the latest technology. I want an accurate gps with a strong signal for walking in deep woods and for ice fishing. I am a garmin fan by history because of it ease of use but I am open to any brand. What have you guys been using and whar are your pros and cons. Thanks…..

    http://www.westmarine.com/buy/garmin–gpsmap-78sc-marine-handheld-gps-receiver-with-compass-and-barometer–11553609?cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-Electronics-_-garmin+78sc+marine+handheld+gps&adpos=1t2&creative=114861687844&device=t&matchtype=b&network=g&gclid=CKrs8oqCrc4CFZM2aQod8qAM6w

The garmin gps/map 78sc is a great unit and for $199 a great price. I have an old gps/map 76sc and love it with the 78 you get the electric compass (a must have) and quicker refresh rates and the 78 floats like my 76.
Though you may have to purchase lake maps adding another $100 or more but still a good deal and garmin mapping is comparable to other mapping out there if not better. See if an old garmin lakemaster chip is compatible to the unit you can pick them up around $50.

One more thing on my gps/map76 i get 18 hrs of run time on 2 aa batteries. Rechargeable batteries are my best freind for this unit.

I have a garmin Colorado and love it. Obviously discontinued long ago but still is a quality unit. The only issues I had were the power receptacle and the card reader. Both had issues with contacts. I don’t use the power receptacle anymore and I downloaded the maps directly onto my unit so I don’t have to worry about cards anymore.

I don’t think you’ll go wrong with garmin.

Btw, I really don’t use mine much anymore because I’ve been using my HDS 7 on he ice. I still bring it as a backup and to use some of my old waypoints.

I have a like new Garmin eTrex Summit HC with box, USB Cable for up dates and a ram mount for it I’d sell way below new retail if you are interested. My wife got it as a prize at work and I only used it a couple times to check the speed on my winter boat when I got a new motor. PM me if interested. Thanks
