Two of us arrived at Birchdale just after noon, launched and set up in 14 f.o.w. Our first spot was a good one as we managed 20+ fish from that one anchor position in just a couple of hours, with half of them being 23-1/2″-25-1/2″. After the bite slowed we moved around quite a bit with only a few walleyes and one giant sturgeon to show for our efforts. It was amazing weather and a great afternoon on the water. Besides getting our first walleyes and sturgeon of the open water season, I got to enjoy my first open water sunset as well while my fishing partner fetched the truck. Open water is here!!

    Cheers and hook-sets!

Very nicely done, fish of that quality are rare on the Missouri River anymore. Is it just me, but are the tails on those fish huge, especially picture #4?

It’s not you, every spring I say the same thing about pics from there. Huge tails!

Here is a bad pic of a 25-1/2 from monday, all tail!

Sweet! Any problems on the ramp? Birchdale is said to be open; are guys backing in their sparkly boats? Or do we need to bring a 14′ or something?

There were a few sparkly ones but there was quite a bit of floating ice too. The ramp was good.
