Is it too early to be fishing hair jigs? This cool weather is giving me the itch.

Does anyone add plastics to hair jigs in the fall? I was thinking about using a 4 in twister on my hair jigs.

Haven’t fished them too much, but have had success with gulp minnows. Livebait don’t like my hands much in cold water

I have some that have little trailers that work pretty but not plastics.

I usually add live bait when it gets real cold. Or, just go to jig and minnow.

Always been just straight hair for me. A good hair jig doesn’t need anything else.

I have various size hair jigs. Smaller for winter spring and larger in fall. However, adding a small curl tail adds a little action, increases the profile, and changes up the color combination.

I avoid live bait on hair jigs. If I fish meat, it’s just meat and plain jig

Its ALWAYS a good time to fish hairjigs!!! I have a hairjig rod and ringworm rod rigged on the deck ALWAYS on Pool 4 ) I like the hair fairly robust and about the size of a small shad…with a bit of flashabou along the lateral line… Jeff (Trumar) can take care of you…

I know this addiction well. My best jig has a marabou core. I usually run about 2.5 inches of marabou with 1.75-2 inches of hair so the marabou tails off the end of the jig. Works well for adding contrast. Black, purple or white marabou with contrasting colors of hair.

I really do not like adding plastic to the jigs. The hair hangs up and grabs the plastic affecting how the hair flows in the water. I have tried it on active fish and do much better with just hair. Minnows are different and do not seem to affect it as much as plastic.

I’ve had good luck tying bunny strips to hair. Black white stripe did better than other colors, like brown, yellow, grey mixes. Been pretty good for crappies couple years now.

    Bear hair,nice.

I bought some hair jigs off an IDOer made from some type of special sheep hair, it gets caught in a smallies mouth apparently and harder to spit out. Haven’t caught one yet so not sure of results tongue

I am heading up to Winnie the 1st of October. I have no hair jigs at all other than some old fuzz-e-grubs… not really a hair jig. Hair jigs have caught my attention, but have not used them or bought them yet. Should I get some to take along and try it out? If so what are the colors and sizes I should have along?

I’d recommend any color that looks like a bruise and some white/silver
