    Devils advocate here…

What are you going to do when your reach into your pocket and grab a dim rechargeable headlamp? Its not like you can put in new AAA batteries and be on your way.

My solution is tape 3 AAA batteries together and keep them in jacket pockets, go-bags and vehicles. If I find un-taped batteries in a pocket or vehicle I know they are dead and to throw them away.

    Different strokes for different folks.

Mark I’ll still keep my AAA ones around, but I’m never far from a power source to recharge the lithiums.

Even when I’m off-the-grid I always bring a couple DeWalt batteries and USB adapters to keep stuff charged.

I’d also assume I could operate these headlamps while charging if needed to in a pinch?? (DeWalt battery in hand or in a pocket?)

It’s ridiculous how much stuff we have to keep charged anymore. For my last ice fishing trip I had to make sure I had my auger batteries charged, the headlamps charged, the graph batteries charged, and the Engel pump charged. Oh, and my phone charged.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s convenient but if you forget to throw your stuff on the charger you’re screwed.

Anyone try the Nightbuddy or any headband light. Dont shoot out a spotlight for say tracking a deer but are awesome for fishing or putting out decoys. Weigh about nothing and can turn on by hand motion so dont have to feel around for button to turn on.

I’m a big fan of battery operated black diamond headlights. Never had an issue with dimness. My headlamps have about 15 different light options of varying brightnesses, colors, etc. Like Mark mentioned – super easy to just keep a couple extra AAAs around to toss in if you ever are in a pinch.

There is a charging cord at home and in the truck typically. If I’m going to use the light it goes on the charger while I drive to wherever I’m going. Just like getting any of your other gear ready.

Due to the use in the cold and some areas where power is an issue (BWCA) is why I went with the 18650 and 21700 battery operated Nitecore and Olight. I also bought a backup battery for each that fits in the carry case. Long run time and reliable in the cold.

Common sense would dictate that one cannot use AAA batteries in a headlamp that uses rechargeable 18650 lithium batteries.
If your rechargeable lithium headlamp is dead or dim, simply put in a freshly charged 18650 battery.
I don’t see the difference between installing fresh AAA’s or installing a fresh 18650 lithium battery.

A 3 pack of AAA batteries will yield 850 to 1,200 milliamps.
A single 18650 battery at minimum, will yield 2850 milliamps. (more than double the 3 pack of AAA’s) Many 18650’s have an even larger capacity than 2850 milliamps..

I agree. Had an energizer AAA i used for years, to the point I had it duct taped to the pivot plastic/piece. I keep an extra one of those with some extra batts in my cooler/backpack/whatever, too.

But I got a fenix rechargeable a couple Christmases ago and love it. I also have another cheap Korean brand rechargeable in the vehicle as another backup. You can’t have too many headlamps and flashlights IMO!!!!

I have a few of the Sofirn handheld lights and two of the H25LR headlamps that are USBC rechargeable. Super bright, have the red LED for hunting, and they’re PLENTY bright enough to see planar boards at night that are wwwaaayyyy out there.

Think I own 5 coolers. Not sure how many flashlights, maybe 10. As someone said its a lot of charging esp.for ice fishing.
Feel like if you want to catch more and bigger fish, you have to be ready to fish in the dark.

I must not be the only one who has a stack of grizzly coolers that sit in the garage. I think I have 4 grizzly coolers and 2 of those lifetime rotomolds as well, I did give away all my older coleman coolers last year at least.

I have 5 small coolers…the kind you need if you are fishing all day by yourself. Had the perfect one, then some asshole kids stole it while it was sitting next to my trailer at the 494 launch.

It was the Goldilocks cooler…now all of them I buy are too big or too small.

Btw, I like my yeti coolers but AO makes a great cooler.

Someone should start a cooler thread.
