will radishes make a good early season food plot or will they be better for late season?

I plant mine in July in SD. Got them in a little late last year and they didn’t produce.

They are best for a late season plot. Like Kooty said early to mid July is the best time to plant.

I was just looking back. It was August before I got mine planted. Not waiting that long again.

Put mine in last year around mid July along with some turnips. They were a deer magnet the last week of December and held deer all the way into mid February. Once it got very cold they hit them hard. Just wish they would have been pounding them more during the season.. Found 7 sheds in the field this spring.

My radishes/turnips get hit more late like was said. Like they dig thru snow to get them. Until then, a little but not so much.

For that reason, I’ve switched over more to Rape and Kale as my early season plants.
The deer just hammered them in October last year and right up until they got buried in snow…but by then, they were eaten down to the nubs.

I plant all 4 about the same time. Mid July…and with a little rain is perfect in southern Mn area.

Anybody else have the same luck with the Kale and Rape?
Curious if it’s just the deer in my area or if you guys have tried it with any luck?

I’ve done clover too but for whatever reason, they really hit the rape and kale way more than the clover.
I think every area is different though.

I plant a mix of turnips and rape and yes they hit the rape hard early to mid season then go after the turnips. Once the snow flies they get after the bulbs of the turnips.
