Oak stumps

Any tricks other than brute force for getting rid of oak stumps? I’m trying to keep my food plot cheap, so I don’t want to hire a dozer or rent a backhoe. My brother said he would use his tractor and disc and plant my plot if the oak stumps were gone. It is possible that I could ruin a few chains on the chainsaw and try to cut the stumps flush with the ground. Thanks,
    Steve

All the chemicals, salt, or rotting methods most likely will take too long. The only effective method I found is a shovel, chains, and something with real persuasive brute force

I knew that would be the answer… Brute force or time… Time is cheaper I guess. Just thinking out loud. Thanks

I have dug around the stump bore a few holes in it as deep as you can, pour in a little diesel and have a little camp fire. Once its burnt down you can fill in and should be good.

Digging them out is too tough. Takes a while…stick with it.

Make friends with someone in demolition
OR, one of our food plots is about a 1/4 mile back in the woods and it is difficult to get large equipment in there. It is an old blow down turned into a food plot, so we had quite a few stumps. We ended up just marking them, and discing/plowing around them..that is always an alternative.

Maybe I should post again and ask if anyone has some dynamite they would like to get rid of? The area was clearcut 10 years ago. The oaks sprouted into bushes. Had I been on this 10 years ago I wouldn’t be asking for help now. I may try burning them. Thanks for the input.

take a 12 inch long PVC cap both ends.. drill hole so a valve stem fit tight.. drill two holes for wires to go in.. put wires in so they just touch caulk them to seal from leaks..

fill valve stem with acetylene.. run a a long wire (speaker wire works good.. dig and put under stump as deep as you can.. touch wires on a 12 volt bat. be sure and stay clear of stump….$10 bucks should cover it.

Holy pyro. I love it. One could also attempt to use tannerite?

Be careful about home made explosives. The Law will call it an IED(improvised explosive device) which is illegal. Would not want you getting fines in the amount a dozer would run. I have the same issue with stumps, and am going around them until I can spring for a dozer.

if they aren’t too terribly large, you can rent a portable stump grinder for the weekend. Just be sure it’s a fully hydraulic model and you shouldn’t have any problem getting them down a foot below grade

even a cheaper way yet.. If you have good land and maybe know someone with a skid loader or something.. work a trade for permission to hunt..

    just an idea..
