Is anyone using these to keep animals out until their plot has had a chance to establish itself? I have one place that is inside the cattles summer fence and thought it would be easier than trying to move the main fence around it.

So, off the topic a bit, but thought I’d share. My buddy’s place that I hunt a lot still has cattle and “hot” fences. This fall we were tracking a deer and I grabbed the top wire focusing on blood instead of the fence. Hit me good. All the way up to shoulder. We laughed, OK, my buddy laughed.

Fast forward 45 minutes, deer is found and we drag her out of the trees. Jeff went and retrieved the pickup for extra lights for field dressing and I dragged the deer under the fence. I grab the back legs as he prepares to split the deer. I somehow managed to rub my tookus back against the hot wire. Let’s just say I jumped towards my buddy and yelped. He was wondering what was going on behind him. Neeless to say it was a comical moment and one I won’t soon forget.

I know that guys do use these, but deer unlike cattle can jump and if what you have inside the fence is to their liking the fence wont keep them out long. Some guys use 2 layers of fence, one row of fence about 2-3′ outside the other fence. This way they can’t jump between the 2 fences and have trouble jumping the distance to clear both of them. one way or another the deer will get in there though and sometimes they get in and can figure out how to get out. Slippery slope
