Without having a high dollar rain gauge is there a way to track actual rainfall online? Not that I can do anything about it but it would be nice to know how much moisture our plots get on any given day/week throughout the season….if any at all .

It’s not a science by any means, but here is one source

    http://water.weather.gov/precip/

Or go to http://www.weather.com Select the city of your choice, i.e. Mora or Isle. Then click the interactive map. At the bottom of the map is a link to past 24 hr precip.

Hopefully someone else has a better tool.

    http://www.intellicast.com/National/Precipitation/Daily.aspx

This is the best one that I have found. Has daily and weekly precipitation maps that you can select down to state w/county outlines. It is good enough I use it for work.

Another option depending on your area is to use a USGS gaging station
    http://waterwatch.usgs.gov/?m=real&r=mn&w=map
click on the dot closest your location. From there select the hydrograph tab, then click on the actual hydrograph. Scrolling through that page, some stations have precipitation monitoring equipment posted.

    Hope this helps

I really wish these sites had better news for me. It is so dry in Ottertail county, my brassica isn’t going to do well. Anyone got a site that gives me higher rain fall totals
