Because we don’t own any equipment (yet) other than 4-wheelers, we rented a small kubota tractor/tiller. After about 8 hours of bouncing on rock,we ended up breaking the drive chain on the tiller. We didn’t even get half done with what we wanted to do, so a week later my buddy rented a Bobcat tractor (40hp) and a tiller and whipped through the rest in about 5 hours. Sounds like he did about $5-600 damage to that tiller. I wasn’t there for that, but I do know, some of the plots had a lot of big rock. This ground hadn’t been broken in 15-20 years from what we can figure. We did get one plot planted the first weekend. We put down some 19-19-19 and dragged it in and then planted a mixture called: Minnesota Buck Mixture. 3 different kinds of clover, rape, turnips and a few other things. 1st picture is 9 days after we planted it. The other pictures are of some of the equipent we used. The friend whose farm it is, planted the rest of the plots a week ago. So they should start popping anytime. It is hard work, but with a few buddies, it is a blast. Can’t wait to see what happens up there this fall.

Rocks, especially big ones are very tough on tillers I am fortunate to not have many rocks, but a disc is a lot more forgiving if you have lots of rocks.

First plot is coming in nice
