Just my second year of having clover plots. How often should you mow them? How high do you mow them? All my clover is white jumbo ladino so it doesn’t get real high, but I am getting some taller weeds in it now.

From a farming perspective, I would mow it twice per year…one between now and July 1st, and again in early august (coming from a UW-extension publication on ladino clover)…but for food plots I would stretch the last cutting until 4 weeks before the first expected killing frost. That way the new growth is more palatable to the deer instead of having a more mature stand.

All I have at home for mowing is a riding lawn mower. The bush hog stays at the farm. Can I mow more often at home so I don’t have to let it get so high. I don’t want to cut more than half the plant size off.

In that case you could mow it now, then mid july and mid august. But you want to make sure not to mow it too often. Otherwise your stand life will drop dramatically
