We’ve been tilling up and spraying this 8 acre area for a month or so now trying to kill off all the rag weed, button weed and nettles. Finally planted this past weekend. Bad part was the seed spreader broke and the only thing we could find was a SMALL hand-crank broadcaster. It held about 8 cups of seed at a time. Needless to say my hands were really cramped up by the time we were done. Anyway, hope it looks as good once it’s established. Winter rye, Buck Forage Oats, Turnips, Baracas and 3 different clovers.

30 x 70 pole barn with a bunk house built inside. Pretty sweet really, if we could put up a windmill we’d be completely off the grid. Reclaimed rain water runs our shower, and kitchen sink. The sink drains into the toilet for flushing and drains into (2) 300 gallon septic systems. We looked into a well but if I remember right with the depth we would have needed it was around $25,000.00 So we bring in bottled water for cooking and drinking. Two bedrooms, a small dinette style kitchen and living room. If we needed too we can sleep 6-7 people. But, that might be a little too cozy Plus it’s just far enough away to be AWAY, and close enough to go weekly if need be.

Can’t imagine how good it would have looked with another 2 or 3 weeks of warm weather. Does and fawns have started finding it, the bucks will soon be there too. You can see the turnips are getting really big, one good hard frost and this could be the place to sit and let the air out of some venison…

Looks really good! Just getting it started is the hardest part. Just like you, I started mine this year (as far as planting goes) and i am already seeing major results. I have been finding a preference in their eating habits and I’m documenting what i find. That way when I do a better detail planting, I get get the best food source neer my stands for the correct time of season. Good Luck this year!
