For those of you that know me I am never happy unless I am experimenting with something new for several years I have wanted to try “forage” soybeans but was unwilling to spend the $70-$80 per bag to trial them. this year while looking for a ag bean that acted like a forage bean Tom Lester hooked me up with a seed dealer that had exactly what I was looking for. this seed is a stein 3132-4 variety that grows huge leaves and as you can see they are very tall. the tonnage is amazing
my observation of these soybeans is that when grown in areas that allows them to mature they are great But when they are heavily browsed they won’t keep growing like a true forage soybean I will plant them again as they are less than 1/2 the cost of the other forage soybeans available to us.

Lots of food in there! Looks thick and awesome Bob . Either all of your crops are extremely tall, or you are a midget on a kids wheeler ! Those are the best beans I have seen all year :.

That’s awesome Bob! I wish the deer would leave alone my beans so they could grow a little bit more.

Looking awesome Bob. Can’t thank you enough for getting me some of these beans…The deer are my plot and can’t wait to get in the stand this fall.

How big do you think the pods will get compared to a regular ag bean?

What kind of height difference are you seeing compared to standard maturity ag beans?

Ben, as you know there are many varieties of ag beans short and tall. I would say these are at least 6″ taller and have way bigger leaves. the deer seem to really like them.

Bob – I’d be interested in knowing how much later into the fall (if any) these beans stay green compared to a traditional soy bean.

From what I understand, one of the main benefits of forage (ex Eagle brand) beans is that they stay green for possibly a month or more later than regular beans, which might be a major benefit when all other beans die off. (Huge attaractant properties when you have the only remaining green soy beans in the area)

    Great post.

Umm, but you have a flag on the back of your wheeler so you don’t get lost in the beans shorty.
