Has anyone planted sunflowers for the deer and pheasants. I have some real light soil that I think would yield better in seeds than corn or beans. I hear out west people talk about how the deer love the seeds and I know the pheasants would enjoy them but not sure about bang for the acre compared to other crops.
    THANKS

the birds will have them all gone early, unless you have many acres. when I raised them the birds came in by the thousands if not ready to combine when its time. if you do I’d plant them in July or August.

I planted a mix a few years back that had some sunflowers in it. I did see the turkeys in them quite often. but never really saw much deer activity in them. I do agree that the deer love the sunflowers. I like to mix them in with the corn when using feeders in northern mn.

Back home the pheasants love them. They use them a lot, but more bedding than feeding I believe. Although I’m sure they browse them too while the leaves and stalks are palatable.
