March is a great time to frost seed clover into existing plots that are in need of some tlc. Usually mid to late march is the best time for this. Use 1/2 of your normal seeing rate and you will be rewarded with a nice stand of clover shortly after green up

The clover plot I put in last year I was advised to inoculate the seeds. Would I do the same when it comes time for frost seeding and what would you recommend for fertilizer and lime?

I would not waste the money on an innoculant for the seed unless they are pre innoculated like WINA’s Imperal Clover. As for fert I aways starft off with 0-10-10, until later in the spring. As far as lime… do you need it? I generaly will amend my soil prior to planting and never have an issue with retesting and finding lower ph than when prior to tbe original seeding of the plot.

Bob when I frost seed how long after green up then should I wait to spray?? Also have you ever used diluted Round up to treat clover?? I have seen photos before but never tried it my self but am wanting to, sure would make things easier and cheaper(no washing sprayer out or having to buy over priced renamed chemicals!!

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if you guys applied it to a plot once it was established.

I had the same question QDM as far as using diluted roundup on my clover plot. Does anyone know what the mix ratio would be for diluting roundup?

Found it… 1 quart of 41% Gly(roundup) per acre will give you a good kill ongrass and broad leafs, propbly not good for a new stand of clover though, I’m gonna try it on a few 4 year old patchs after the weeds reach about 5 inchs tall and there in rain in the somewhat near future shoortly after the roundup dries I’m going to do my over seeding. Also an experiment for this year is I’m going to sprin g tooth drag one plot and over seed Brassicas in it then roll it hopefully looseningthe soil a bit and adding some nutes at the same time utilizing the nitrogen produced but the clovee and creating a nice buffet plot that will then be frost seed the following spring

The 1 quart of roundup is mixed with how many gallons of water? Here’s my issue…I have less than a 1/4 acre of clover. All I need to do is some spot spraying in the plot and was just going to hit it using a 2 gallon hand sprayer. Would you think that I could get away with using 1 oz of roundup to 1 gallon of water?

last summer I tried to burn off my clover before tilling for my fall planting. I mixed my gly stronger than normal and it didn’t even hurt the clover a bit???
