So as of the last 2 weeks my plot has really started to yellow and leaves are even drying out and falling off. Is this a because of a lack of N? I’m sure I planted a little on the heavy side too. Deer are still using it but it’s getting worse by the day. Would fertilizer do much this time of year? Also for guys who have planted this in the past, is it supposed to stay green all winter? or will frost kill off the leaves? Any help/imput would be greatly appreciated.

Lack of N or lack of H20, with this heat and dryer weather you may start to see it as plants that big they are going to transpire more water than others, as for ferting now, not sure, how about you spead they fert so it can frost tbhe next day and get cold for good and the rest of us can get back to hunting with out sweating all kidding aside I sure wouldnt hesitate to dump some N on the plots closet to where the stand is located, some rain and this warm weather should help a bit, keep us posted if you deside to, I’m interested in the resuults

I’ve never seen mine yellow much, but they typically will take on a purple color after a frost. Chlorosis or yellowing is typically a sign of N deficiency in all plants generally speaking. It may help to topdress a little but make sure not to throw it on until shortly before a rain or you will lose it to the atmosphere.

    Good luck

My fear is if I fertilize it the deer that are using it may become sick due to the fertilizer staying on top of the plant as the plot is very thick. Am I off on this or…..????

When were these planted? some brassicas will mature in as little as 60-90 days so this would be a natural thing. My opinion on fertilizer in central mn. this time of year would be a waste of money. At this point the growing season for the brassicas is pretty much over. Don’t worry about some yellowing, they will still eat them. If we get a early snow and the plants don’t see temps in the -10 deg range they usually stay fairly green all winter. I would reduce the amount of seed you are using. less is better when it comes to brassicas.

Bob, I planted them on July 25th with 10-10-10. Evolved Harvest shotplot. I then hit them with a 28-0-0 2 weeks later. I planted a bag made for a 1/2 acre and mine is just over a 1/3 so yeah too heavy. Just hard to do with a hand broadcaster. Hopefully the deer don’t give up on it. Thanks everybody for your input!
