reserved 13,500 trees (hardwood-& nut trees), 45 apple trees, 200# clover mix, Brassicas Rape, Turnip & Kale, oats, Austrian Winter Peas, Soybeans, and a few more to tinker with.

Here’s a few pics of the plot I’m working with. All the grass/weeds are cut. Staked out my main new road that will be clover, hazelnut, and apple trees.

If the flags show in the pics, you can see I have all the sub-plots divided and marked. Each plot along the main road, is sub-divided again.
By understanding how turkey and whitetail navigate the natural terrain, I’m filling in the “dead” space with trees. Each plot will have two different food sources. Early and late is the focus. All the plots are basicly set up so I can do a figure 8 with my 970 and disc and make two passes per sub-plot.

anyways, its something to do to keep me busy. Winter rye strips are going in next weekend and the wind-rows will be set up for the future wind breaks across the field.

Looks like you got a good start!! Have you done any soil tests? Dont scimp on the lime if needed or the palatability wont be there regardless of the amount of food Cant wait to see the fall pick from next year!!

You must mean full of turkeys. Its in the CWD zone, so the neighbors have all bought into the DNR’s plan to exterminate the entire herd. I’ve only had 4 anterless and 1 VERY small buck frequenting my property. Over 100 acres of very prime food and bedding areas. With all the trail cams out all summer, to now, its sickening. My daughter’s don’t want to deer hunt at all. They are sick of day after day to MAYBE see a doe pass through at 400 yards away. Its that bad up there right now….and we still have “Earn a buck” I got lucky last year and shot a mature buck that had shed it’s horns early. He walked by and I could see his manhood between his legs….so I took him. No horns, so he was considered an anterless and I got my buck tag for this year.

Soil samples have all been taken. Lime is not an issue. I’ll be having a few of the neighbors spread manure all winter on this segment of land. The lime from their barn floor works great. We are doing a ground shock, and heavy fall fertilizer. Mostly to balance the Ph levels before planting all the trees this spring.

Thats to bad for the extermnation, chances are its a worthless kill off, in my opinion. but that land will hold deer i would think. so good luck next season, with the turkeys also.
