    Eau Claire area.

Looking for the best planting date for an early season kill plot of Buck Forage Oats. Assume all else is equal (rain, soil conditions, etc)

Single date answer is all I’m looking for. (Example, Sept. 1)

I have my opinions, just wondering what your call is.

I am not trying to start a debate but I have planted forage oats from the local elevator right beside the bfo. and at most have seen a slight advantage to heavy frost on the bfo.as far as the deer eating them i have not noticed any preferance all my oats are purchased locally and have had good luck unless i plant to early. if the oats get to tall they are much less palatable to the deer.

My local coop has regular oats and BFO. I’ve never personally planted them side by side, but have talked to guys that do prefer the BFO. FWIW…

I decided to put some turnips, beets, rye, etc.. in yesterday as a mixed seed plot. Rained while I was finishing, and we got a good amount of rain last night. ( )

Not that I ever actually have any time to hunt, but at least it was fun putting in the plots…
