I have a G4 desk top and the FW has the Power Book.
The only downside I’ve found in 15 years of using a Mac is Map Create and Contour Pro won’t work on them.
Since Microsoft made the copycat version of the Mac Platform there really isn’t too much differance in the OS anymore.
Although I’ve found it’s better for Mothers to have pc’s. Then anyone can help them…and they don’t have to rely on their sons.
Chappy, I would suggest your brother help her.

April 10, 2008 at 11:23 am #673306I run a Mac Pro. It has all the bells and whistles. If I were to buy a laptop computer, it’d be a Mac. Just the thought of having to deal with no virus’ makes me a happy guy.
Don’t let Chappy scare you. He has a hard time running an alarm clock.
April 10, 2008 at 11:39 am #673309I love my Macbook!
I run everything for my business on it and it has software for video and audio editing on it. Easy to use! The only thing I have trouble with is posting pics on IDO.
If you get one from the mac store make sure to get their service plan…they take care of their customers.
AaronApril 10, 2008 at 11:43 am #673311Team Electronic in Woodbury!
PS download Firefox browser…
It will take you about 5 minutes to download and install. All of your bookmarks and settings will transfer from Safari to Firefox.
Not only will you get around the upload bug…but I believe you’ll forget about Safari.
April 10, 2008 at 1:31 pm #673349I have a Dell laptop and a MacBook. The MacBook is used 10:1 over the Dell. I have zero problems using MS Office and interfacing with PC’s.
I used to swear by Firefox until I tries Safari.

They better when they include a Smug Tax with everything they sell. That and the inflated sense of self importance surcharge.I kid! At work they gave me a MacBook Pro to do my programming on. Of course I work by running Vista on a virtual machine. I think for the average user, if you have the money, Mac is the way to go. It’s just easier as far as hardware and use is concerned. Unless you are a hardcore gamer and would enjoy more than 10 games to choose from.
April 10, 2008 at 3:01 pm #673403Between home and work we have two macbooks, 2 imacs, and 2 ibm compatible computers. My wife is a teacher and her school does not have them so that is why we have 2 of the later. She only uses them if she absolutely has to otherwise we are on the macs. Ease of use, don’t have to worry about viruses, great customer service over the phone, ect. I use it for pictures and creating family DVD’s and everyone is amazed as to how good they come out. It is not because of me, it is because of the programs they come with and the ease in which they work. You can’t go wrong in my book going with an Apple.

April 10, 2008 at 3:22 pm #673412Why do you guys think Macs are not succeptable to viruses??
Apple makes a very good product, but spendy if you ask me. You can buy a pretty loaded out machine now days under $650.00 for a desktop. Mac support isn’t as readily available, so get the extended service plan.
Bill Gates forever!!!

In short, the language that most viruses are written in (exe.) are not the same in which Macs use.

That, and the pinheads who formulate virus’ can’t afford Macs.
That comment came direct from a Dell Rep.
April 10, 2008 at 4:27 pm #673446I think you guys are fooling yourselves. I’m constantly getting security alerts for OS vulnerabilites for the Mac. Where I do believe your safer is the pure volume of viruses written on a day to day basis.
Of course, why target a few hundred people when you can target millions.
April 10, 2008 at 5:10 pm #673469I’ve been a PC user since day one, and wouldn’t ever switch. It’s all about personal preference. I use a PC at work, all the business apps I need are developed for a PC, so it makes sense to use a PC. If my focus was graphics, ad layouts, video editing, then I’m sure I would make the switch to a Mac. In my opinion the real questions you need to ask yourself are what are you going to use it for, and is it worth the extra money?

April 10, 2008 at 6:42 pm #673520Ok thanks for the info. Here is what I am looking at Smaller link<<<
Any comments or rec? Like before looking at using it for pictures, web use, web site building, basic word documents
April 10, 2008 at 8:10 pm #673578I am another happy Mac guy. I have a G5 at home and use a Mac Book Pro at work. I am sure you will be happy with anything that you buy. So is the upload problem with pictures ever going to be fixed with Safari?
rmklink0817Posts: 78April 10, 2008 at 8:41 pm #673598I have had a mac book laptop for a year and a half. I didn’t know what to think when i got it being mostly familiar with PC but i love it. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Don’t get the white one though if possible bec it absorbs anything that is on your hands and turns a murkier color if not cleaned regularly. Otherwise it has everything and i love it.
April 10, 2008 at 9:12 pm #673616The virus issue is a numbers game for sure.
Firefox is slower? You run a lot of add-ons? There is a memory leak that they won’t admit to, but that should be fixed with 3.0 I personally don’t notice a difference in speed between IE and FF.
April 10, 2008 at 10:25 pm #673659One more vote for Mac. We have been a Mac family for 15 years. Microsoft Office interchanges beautifully with any PC’s. File swapping is no problem.
Viruses no problem.
No goofy start up / printer Driver/ Monitor problems…
At first I was a sceptic… Now I’m a believer

April 11, 2008 at 12:25 am #673699I have to ask. What is a cumputOr. Whatever you get, just make sure it has spell check. No really. I mean, without spell check on my browser I’d sound like a moron. Brian, leave it.
