Last year I failed miserably on my food plots. Numerous things added up to failure. I was not going to make the same mistakes this year and I decided that I needed an expert. So I reached out to fellow IDO Gold Member – Bob Bergeson (Bobss396) and asked him if I could pick his brain. Bob is a food plot junkie and immediately I knew that I was talking with the right guy.

After a few PMs and a few phone calls, Bob volunteered to come out to our property and “take a look”. After we spent a couple of hours on the 4-wheelers looking over the property, Bob volunteered his services and stated that he could help me out with my food plots. This land had not been worked for over 20 years and it was very rocky in some places.

Bob didn’t hesitate and said that he could get it done. The first thing we did was to spread 250 lbs of fertilizer (19-19-19) per acre. Then on Sat., Bob showed up with his son – Bobby and they began rototilling the food plots. This worked like a charm and it was amazing how well the rototiller ground up the weeds and worked the ground down to 4-5 inches. It was also virtually indestructible and never once did it stop working even when it rolled over the rocks.

After the ground was all worked up, they hooked on the planter and they planted 2 rows of round up ready beans and 2 rows of round up ready corn while spreading some additional start up fertilzer. They also planned on adding some additional turnips and winter wheat along the fringes of every single food plot later on in August.

Bob and his son Bobby were on the tractor for over 12 hours straight and never once did they stop unless they needed more seed.

Bob also took into consideration the many important variables when it comes to positioning these food plots and how you go about planting them. Factors such as bedding areas, stand locations, entering/exiting your stands, water locatons etc…

Thank you Bob and Bobby for your unbelievable contributions. It’s easy to see that you guys truly know your stuff and your food plot passion is what I love the most. If you two would ever want to change your careers, I know both of you would certainly have a future in creating a food plot and wild life habitat business.

I will continue to post updates as these food plots mature.

Thanks Brad, You are way to generous! Bobby and I truly are whitetail/habitat junkies.as a matter of fact when i got home from work last night Bobby was wondering when we can start making some more improvements on our home property. he is a natural when it comes to deer structure and how to manipulate deer movement to benifit the hunters chances of big buck encounters.
Brad, your property has it all! water, great bedding, natural staging areas, good food sources and 750 well managed acres of land. I don’t think I have been on a better Minnesota farm! If the weather cooperates you should have some nice looking plots this fall.

Brad you’re one lucky duck! Props to Bobs for lending his muscle and knowledge. IDO is fortunate to have someone so knowledgeable and ready to share insight about most, including my attemtpts at food plotting.
