I have been diving for about 6 years now, and there is nothing better then getting close to big fish in their home. We have a snapping turtle that we feed by hand in one of the mine pits up in Crosby, took me a little while to feel comfortable getting close to that big turtle, but honestly he looks for us now every time we go up there and dive.
Friend of a friend of a farmer said I could go pick up as many truckloads of 3 year old cow manuere as I wanted for free. Good Fertilizer? Waste of time? Has anyone ever tried this on your food plots. Just trying to see if it is possible to save a buck (no pun) anywhere throughout the planting process.
3 years old manure? I’m assuming that it’s sitting somewhere outside so I’m guessing it might be hard to put through a manure spreader.
I would first do a soil test to determine the PH (level of soil acidity) and act occordingly. Spreading manure especially if the farmer uses lime in his barns can help your food plots if your PH is low.
If you have a way to spread it i would take as much as i could get! put it on thick and disc it in asap! fertilizer prices have have more than doubled in price in the last few years, so free fertilizer is something to take advantage of.
Still waiting on my soil samples but I am sure I will need as much fertilizer as I can afford so this should be right up my alley. Thanks for the replies.
We put put some on some food plots last year and we had an over abundance of weeds in those plots. We came to the conclusion it was weed seeds in the manure.

you are right! the weeds can be bad when using manure. I would only use manure if I was going to plant a round up ready soybean or Corn.
