I got a chance to test drive one of these myself this weekend and I give it my personal thumbs up! I’ll have a few pics and a brief review up in a day or two.

Ok after viewing these picture of my mule deer buck (about 1000 times) I noticed he was working my mineral site over pretty good. So last night I went out and freshened the site and hung a camera. Anyone else having there mineral sights getting hit??? Do they need it now or are they just that hungry???
February 3, 2010 at 1:47 am #76558They are hammering mine I use a soft trace mineral all year.
If anything they need it the most during the winter months when the most stress is applied to their system do to the frigid temps and less food sources being available.
Kinda like taking Vitamins
Just my thoughts on this

They dabble at mine but after a lick or two they move back onto the corn, think they are just curious, take a lick and say naw, not enough calories.
This is the case on my mineral sites right now too.
February 3, 2010 at 5:06 am #76584I guess i have not checked mine for a while im cant wait for the spring and summer to get the cams out on some new mineral sites i have been workin on a little mix cant wait to finish it up and get some out gotta feeling its going to drive em wild just gotta finish a lil tweaking and get the measurements perfect
February 3, 2010 at 2:53 pm #76599What type/brand of trace minerals do you all use. I don’t see a block in the picture so I’m guessing that it is some mix of loose salt. How often do you need to refresh/replace the site. I’m going to set up a few salt lick sites on my deer land this spring. If you are hand mixing your salt do any of you care to share the ingredients and amounts. I’m thinking about using a hand mixed loose mix to get the site started and then also adda block to the site to keep salt available to the deer between refreshing the loose mix. I guess that I’m worried that with a lot of rain that the loose mix will run off or seep to deep into the soil.
February 3, 2010 at 3:38 pm #76600I normally use deer cocain but the last two years i have been working on my own mixture details to come at a later time im tryin to come up something that blows any store bought product out of the water but i know for a store bought product deer cocain is hard to beet from my expirance

Are products like Deer Cocain and other products that contain ingredients other than Salt legal to hunt over or near in Minnesota? The laws are a little unclear at to what is considered ” BAIT ” I thought if it contained anything other than Natural Salt or other natural Minerals that it was treated as BAIT.
February 3, 2010 at 5:55 pm #76618I use Acorn Rage. I counted 19 different bucks from when i started using it, to opening day caught on trail camera A 5 lb bag lasted about 2 weeks and then i would refresh the site. I would NOT put the entire 5 lbs out at a time since this was unnecessary. I would put about 1.5 lbs out at a time and rake it into the soil and the deer would practically eat the soil

Deer Cocaine is legal in MN. However a lot of other stuff sold in stores are not. Examples: Acorn Rage, Buck grub, green rage, & etc
The reason being the latter of these attractants (acorn rage, Buck grub, etc) are made up of Crushed Nuts and grains. Deer cocaine and other similar products are made up mainly of minerals (di calcium phosphate, trace mineral slats, stalk salts and other minerals). If your curious if it is legal just read the ingredients. If it has crushed acorns, corn, soy beans, etc it is not legal in MN. Below is a copy of the Rules straight from the MN DNR 2009 Regulations.
Quote:
HUNTING METHOD RESTRICTIONS
bait or Feed
•“Bait or feed” is grain, fruit, vegetables, nuts, hay, or other food that is capable of attracting or enticing deer and that has been placed by a
person.
•Hunters are not allowed to use or hunt over bait or feed or hunt in the vicinity of bait or feed if the hunter knows about or has reason to know about the placement of the bait or feed.
• A person otherwise in compliance with this section who is hunting on private or public property that is adjacent to the property where bait or feed is present is not in violation if the person has not par-ticipated in, been involved with, or agreed to baiting or feeding
wildlife on the adjacent property.
•An area is considered baited for 10 days after complete removal of the bait or feed.
•Liquid scents, salt, and minerals, are not considered bait or feed.
•This restriction does not apply to foods that havenot been placed by an individual and result from normal or accepted farming, forest management, wildlife food plantings, orchard management, or similar land management activities.Piling harvested
pumpkins or other food from a food plot is one example of baiting. 2009 Minnesota Hunting Regulations
February 5, 2010 at 6:46 pm #76802im all for putting out minerals for the deer its helps them in many ways antler development fawns really need it does need it for nursing i never hunt right over it i only put it out to try to help the deer in my area
April 1, 2010 at 1:44 pm #79234I like the idea of only using a little bit of the acorn rage poured into the ground just for trail cams. Last year everytime I poured that stuff in front of a cam it took 4-5 times the amount of pictures in two weeks. Is that legal in MN as long as there is no stand within eyesight, bow range, a certain distance?
April 1, 2010 at 3:04 pm #79237All of my sites are being used now. It will be much better if we get any rain this weekend!
