Love the muscle car thread. I’ve never had a hot car myself but buddy has a ‘69 cuda. Many fun nights in that car.
Got me thinking about something I really cherish.
I received a 12 gauge Remington 870 Wingmaster for Christmas when I was 12 from my parents. Still refer to it as my “baby”.
Dad had a 12, 16 and 20 gauge Wingmasters. I’ve got many more guns now but that Wingmaster is sill my favorite. Especially since dad is gone now. Most of the action it see’s these days is gophers in the yard.
My son is about to turn 8. Dilemma I have now is to pass the 870 down to him or get him is very own when he’s 12.
    Anyone else got a favorite?

I have a few favorites I inherited from my grandfather when he passed. One is a old Winchester pump .22 I grew up on there farm shooting birds/gophers with that gun every day I was there. Another one is a savage 99 .250-3000 kind of a rare gun and pretty cool with the rotary magazine.

I remember riding in the tractor with the .22 gun in the cab and watching for gophers. Puts a smile on my face every time I think of those guns and where they came from.

I own 1 gun (maybe) it’s a .17 for plinking Gophers & Chippies. I’m SURE you are going to heard stories here of guys with 20 or more guns and thousands of rounds of ammo. Maybe even a tank or two mixed in. wink

I would buy him his own gun, and when the time comes you can pass your down to whom ever.

I agree with Gimp. Unless your son is an exception to the rule, his first gun will be a lesson in gun care. Pass along a heirloom a bit later in his life when can appreciate the full value it has, both as a gun and as an heirloom.

I agree with the above – if the gun has sentimental value to you pass it on when he can appreciate that. Plus it is one of the good 870s – not the recent ones.

Get him a new gun and make it an experience. I clearly remember the day my dad took me to the store and got me a 10/22 that was “my” gun among all the others.
