We are moving into a new home which has a really nice cement crawl space under part of it. It got me thinking that a lay down gun safe would work really well in it.

I see they make something like this. but I would like it to be deeper and the guns would go in the long way. And maybe even have it so i can stack one more on top

Who makes one -) or what company wants to work with me to test the idea -)

Are you sure this crawlspace is moisture free?

Yes no more moisture than what would be in the basement or in any basement that I would put a regular gun safe in

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lay-down gun safe that held more than 1-2 guns. What I’ve seen seems to be designed for under the bed storage with side access, so the number of guns is limited by this factor.

How many guns are you needing to store?

I, too, would be worried about moisture, AND with this wet year, ANYTHING at ground level or below is prone to water entry unless this house sits on top of Mt. Everest.

Is there no chance of a boring old “safe in a closet” solution?

I even know one guy who, for lack of a better place inside the house, has his gun safe in the garage. He did a little extra work on his garage by replacing the window with shatterproof glass and the side door is reinforced steel with a steel frame. The safe is hidden in a cabinet and he runs 2 Golden Rods in it. Never had an issue with moisture or 2 legged vermin.

So you guys (or others) don’t have your gun safes in your basements? I am not worried about standing water I assume we are talking about air moisture humidity etc., which I would almost think that garage would have more moisture than my basement.

Because of-ahhh hemh–a collection that has expanded a bit (!) over time, I have a second safe in the basement.

However, my basement is heated like the rest of the house, I run a dehumidifier there all summer, AND I have a Golden Rod running in the safe itself. The safe is also blocked up 6 inches off the floor just in case some kind of backup or flash flood would somehow flood our basement.

I’m just VERY paranoid about moisture. Ounce of prevention better than pound of cure, etc.

Thanks for the reply grouse. This would be the same things I would be doing as well. There is a main basement but the addition just has a 4 ft crawl.

I figured there wasn’t much out there but thought if anyone would know this group would.

    Thanks again for the information!

I have always kept my safes on concrete floors below ground level. I usually elevate them slightly off the floor and always use an electrical dehumidifier stick MOST of the year. They can dry out your stocks if you use them during dry times of the year like winter. Even in the basement.
