How have the temps been up in the Brsinerd-Nisswa area? Down here they have been nice and balmy. I’ve been searching for ice depths but I don’t seem to find much info?
Just looking forward to our trip up for Brainerd JC contest. Thanks.

Just looking forward to our trip up for Brainerd JC contest. Thanks.

I’ll be with the group of guys fishing. Stop and say hi.

Looked at the long range forecast, looks to be good ice making weather up there. Forecast high for January 26th for the contest is 9°. Hopefully it’s a little windy as well.
Does anyone have an update on the ice conditions on Gull lake where the contest is being held? Cannot find any info if the contest is still scheduled. I know the JC organization decides on the thickness of the ice but nothing is posted on the website. Thanks.
I don’t know what the ice conditions are like, but there are plenty of houses and trucks out there. There hasn’t been anything posted online or on the radio that suggests that it won’t be going on as scheduled. But then again, I haven’t seen anything about the official go-ahead from the sheriff like they usually do.

Me either. Have a local friend who does the tournament with me every year and he hasn’t said anything yet. Don’t think he’s concerned in the least. This weekend there should be an update from the contest about the sheriff giving the “go”. brainerd dispatch paper is another source
Thanks guys. It always seems to be a hush. I would think there would be more chatter but that adds too the suspense.
Hope it’s still a go.
There will be a group of 16 of us going up for it.
Hope to meet some of you guys that are going.
I think they wait to announce until the official permit is issued from the sheriff.
Looked back on last year. It was friday, 8 days prior, when the site was inspected and permit issued. Despite the fact that there was plenty of ice to do that even a week or two sooner. The official press release followed.

Lots of people asking for GULL LAKE ice conditions and DEPTH of ice!
I drilled a couple random holes around the EXTRAVAGANZA site yesterday and found and average of 16”. With this cold weather forecast, we should be gaining daily.

I just saw that the Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza FB page posted a video with the sheriff on the ice and said the permit is written and it’s a go on the 26th.

That’s great!! We’ll be there.
Anyone ever do any good at this contest or have any tips to catch fish?
We are staying at Grandview Lodge Friday and Saturday. Breakfast is awesome there.
We’ll be at the VFW Friday for the meat raffle. Then off too the pickle factory.
Good luck everyone!

Do great and have a perfect record. 13 years of awesome fun, good friends, and zero fish
We will be staying at Grandview Lodge. Anyone else staying there?
Fish are easy too catch at this contest. Sorry patk.
We will be the 8 guys out there trying too stay warm. Stop and say hi!
Staying at grandview lodge. Getting in Tuesday noon. Heading straight to the spa for a massage.
The Extravaganza is going to be ONE cold day out on the ice.
The Weather Underground Website is predicting a high of minus 5 at about 3 pm and a wind of about 7 mph out of the west.
Dress warm so you don’t hurt yourself.

That my Friend is awesome!!! Your priorities are in the right place.
Don’t tell anyone but catching fish isn’t high on my list. Hangin out friends is.
Here’s to another 13 years.
Drove across the grounds today. There is quite a bit of snow on the ice. Gonna be tough walking to your hole. Not sure how much ice. Maybe ill drill a hole tomorrow and get a measurement.
Find the Ohio guys and you’ll have a good chance of winning
They did do all right?

Well it’s sounds like ice cleats will not be needed.
We’ll take a shuttle out of Grandview Lodge and go out. Ice thickness doesn’t really matter to us because well need to use a spud anyhow.
We’ll probably end up taking the shuttle as well.
Perch is catch of the day fish.
Definitely bring ice cleats as the main roads will be plowed. It might get icy with all the holes being drilled as well.
Did you get a chance too check Ice? We were thinking of taking our own vehicles out of Grandview Lodge access. Park them out there and then walk in. Does Grandview allow that? Thanks.
Yep, you can drive out from grandview. Not sure what the parking will be like out at the grounds. Lots of snow on the ice. Traveling off road will be tough.I did not check the ice today. They did have bobcats out there plowing the perimeter and other snow stuff.
Drilled a hole out by the grounds. About 18 inches. Lots of drifting snow. Not sure about parking out by the grounds. High temp today is about 2 below with a stifffff breeze.
The road out and the grounds in the pics.
Brainerd forecast for Saturday. Dress warm!
Your forecast looks worse than mine. Accu-weather at least shows 6 above for the high. Either way this is going to be down right tough too fish. We will be out there though.

What do you think the issue will be with parking out by the grounds if we drive out through Grandview Lodge access? Thanks.
