Guide trips

I’ve watched quite a few guide trip videos and have a question. When trolling you never see them slow down or stop when hooked into a big fish. I run up to 8 lines trolling and when a nice fish is caught hit the auto pilot to slow do enough to keep all the rods from tangling, but not exceed more than a mile per hour. It looks like in all these videos they keep humming along and skip the fish off the surface or make the fight boring. What’s the reason for this? I understand not wanting to tangle lines, but we barely ever tangle lines when fighting a fish. Reeling in a line or two helps with getting tangled, but we have planer boards that keep most lines way out of the way. Watching people reeling in nice fish at 2-3 mph hurts lol.

For the charters I believe it’s all about the money. If they get a fish on they keep the lines out to try and get more from that school. The faster they fill the limits on the boat the sooner they head in and the less fuel they burn.

    My theory anyway.

I will slow the kicker down to idle if I get a big fish on but don’t stop if I have more than 2 lines out.

If the guide keeps the boat going, he doesn’t have to count on the client to keep pressure on the fish. Doesn’t matter on the experience level. It’s just easier and more productive overall.

Guide or no guide I see most people do this. Thats why I disagree trolling kills less fish. Not a fan of trolling fast.

Give me a jig and a bobber or spinner rig and my clients will hook nearly every fish in the mouth. Not to mention its actually fun.

I refer to this as dragging. Probably have to if there are more than a couple rods out? I’m going to do more trolling in the future mainly out of boredom and learning new tactics.
There is nothing better than a fish smacking the rod out of your hand! Main reason I have refused to go dragging but fishing by myself 90% of the time, I definitely will slow the boat down to enjoy hand to hand combat.

Same reason bass guys flip a bass in the boat. Efficiency.
