There is a not-so-welcoming guard outside my building this morning! This is actually pretty hilarious to watch. Apparently many of the building visitors are afraid of a hissing, charging goose! I just waved my arms and told him to “Git!” and he waddled away. We’ve seen them on the roof lately so we’re wondering if momma goose is up there on a nest.

We’ve got the same here. Several of my coworkers have been harassed by our guard geese.

Its the guard rooster chickens and guard turkeys that worry me. They have weapons while geese are soft and round all over.

Except geese can reach a particularly sensitive area..

It might interest some to know that in Britain as late as the 1990s, geese were used to guard military installations of many types. These were the domestic (or semi domestic) variety, but they were kept generally in areas near the outer fence of the installations.

Should anyone or anything approach, the geese went absolutely apesh!t and raised such a ruckus that nobody within the facility would be unaware that something was going on. I was told that if anyone other than the handler would try to approach them, they would band together and mount an attack on what they saw as a “predator”.

Pretty novel idea, I thought. Cheap, effective, and geese never area all asleep at the same time. One or more of them is always watching.

One of my coworkers was really worried about this “aggressive” goose, so I put up a sign that says “What out for goose!” as a joke… Well that kinda backfired, because I was then asked to add “For assistance, please call Sharon”. Apparently “goose whisperer” was added to my job description. smash

A few of us were actually laughing and suggesting a goose dinner if he doesn’t calm down!

Try making friends. Bring it some bread.

My SIL works at a hospital, and she was telling me about another worker who was complaining about a crow that constantly pecked at her window. In an attempt to scare it away, the maintenance guy put up an owl decoy!!! I laughed my butt off.

Bring in Fritz and Remi to deal with the goose. On second thought, I tried that with Floyd once, and the goose actually bit him on the nose!

Well, a coworker and I just went up to the roof and it’s confirmed – Momma goose is up there sitting on a nest of about 4 eggs. She didn’t look happy to see us, so we scurried away to leave her in peace. I didn’t even get to take a photo. Anyone know how long until goose eggs hatch and they leave to find a new home?
