Heading up to Vermilion this week and want to do some grouse hunting while we are up in the area fishing. Camping in tower and just looking to see if there is any know trails to hike with the kid for shooting birds. Willing to drive a hour or so if need be. I’ll try playing on onx but figured I’d ask here. Pm if you want. Thanks.

I would avoid the logging roads south of frazer bay. We hunted that a few years ago and it gets pounded. Lots of options. I have not hunted that area a lot but hopefully someone else chimes in.

Maybe just head up to ely or beyond. Then again you’d also be contending with a bunch of school kids mrgreen

My neighbor gave me some solid spots to try up outside of ely. This is more so a walleye trip but I want to spend a couple afternoons walking trails for grouse.

If it was me I’d take my walks in the morning and fish in the afternoon. Once you start figuring out some decent trails or areas you are in a great area for good numbers of birds.

That might be exactly how we do it.

Let us know how you do.

I head up there next Thursday. I have a buddy that is one of the guides for the Fishing School at Vermillion Dam Lodge this week, so I am hoping to get some info from him as well.

I will likely make a run to the west end, if weather allows it. Otherwise I will be fishing the east end.

Spent 3 nights in the State Park this weekend, and while I left the shotgun at home, we saw lots of grouse on the trails in the park that we walked.
Not much for color, more leaves coming down from being dry.
A buddy who lives in Tower said that this is gonna be a good year for birds up there. I’ll be back up to hunt a few days with him mid-October once some more leaves come down.

We hunt near Cotton MN an hour south of Tower. Many birds heard the past two weekends, only two down. It’s still the jungle up that way and very buggy. Wednesday through Saturday look to be warm, follow the above advice to hunt in the morning and fish in the afternoon/evening. Bring plenty of water for you and the dogs.
