Billy and I went up north recently to chase some grouse just east of Hinkley, MN. It was beautiful weather for walking through the woods in the morning and evening hours, but it warmed up pretty well during the day and the gnats were active. The morning fog was beautiful and we ended up getting 3 grouse! Our GSP Fritz hasn’t had many opportunities to grouse hunt, as we do much more pheasant hunting, so he needed more than one reminder to range closer to us. He jumped a few that we missed and we heard some flutter away in the distance while walking the shady trails. Grouse can be tricky to shoot with so much brush and leaves still on the trees, but we enjoy the challenge. It got pretty chilly at night which meant it was great campfire weather. It was a wonderful weekend to start the much awaited Fall season! mrgreen

Perfect “apple pie” weather, too. )

Yes, definitely! That would have kept us good and warm! We did manage sneak over to Danbury to pick up some Everclear for Billy’s next batch. waytogo

Pretty! That’s a great idea for decoration. I have some tail feathers from my first grouse framed with a picture in my living room. Once we finish the basement I’d love to having more decorations like that.

We need to pay more attention to how we’re presenting the bird so they look nicer in pictures! Chris Granrud has some nice grouse pictures on his facebook with the tails all fanned out and I said to Billy, we need to start doing that in our pics!

I have the tail of my first Grouse (Age 12) and the horns of my first deer (15) on the same piece of old barn lumber hanging at the cabin. The tail is looking pretty ratty but its neat.

Here’s a sample from last year. Nice to tuck the Citori in there as well.

Wait. That looks 10X more awesome than just a Citori. That looks like a 16 gauge Citori.

Please confirm! We need a touch of class on these forums, with Suzuki talking about his belt-fed grouse machine gun and suchlike.

Nice picture Suzuki, I especially love the little pup at his feet! He’s adorable! Did he assist in the hunt?

LOL, you guys are too funny! This conversation is starting to remind me of working at the hardware store – when guys would come in asking where my caulk is… shock hah

The pup was accidental. I didnt even know he was in the pic when I took it.
“Bogey” is brand new to Crossin Eye’s family and not quite ready for the field but he probably thinks he is. Super nice puppie.

Yes, it is Ralph. He is pretty dang cute. He’s almost got Suzuki convinced to get a Springer next time around. )
I hope he’s as good in the field as big brother is. I’ve been pretty lucky.

Here is a fan I mounted that graces my den wall. I like the looks of a fan mount.

Thanks. Just by chance, I happen to have a pic of him….he was a big old late season cockbird. Impressive enough for me to stop the hunt and take a pic!

I have two mounted with monster tails but the biggest ever was one taken in the UP well over 20 years ago. That one compares to yours. I love that copper phase!

Dont let Grouse know you use a belt fed machine gun like I do! Oh, too late! haha
    The only way to roll!
