I’m wondering if anyone uses ground blinds as make shift ice houses. and do they work well?

I’ve used mine as a spare for friends. It works but the windows don’t seal like a fish house so a lot of wind gets through. Like I said it worked though.

I’ve used ground blinds as ice houses and I’ve used ice houses as ground blinds. Deer didnt seem to care there was a new, large black canvas sitting in the woods. Walleyes didnt seem to care there was a camo blind above them. Was very, very cold though!! Could have been just the quality of the blind, but either way I doubt most ground blinds have near the insulation ice houses do. The wind went in one side and out the other!

Duck tape to seal up the windows helps tremendously. Once the windows are sealed, not much different than any other un-insulated hub shelter. NOTE I said un-insulated, Dress warm and carry on.

    Yup

I’ll venture to say the ground blind your looking at doesn’t have a skirt either…

Sunflower heater and a fan attached to cealing should keep you warm.

You’ll also want to be sure you can stake each corner and not just the walls

I’ve done it once before. It works pretty slick.

Correct. No skirts. Figured if there’s enough snow I can shovel some in around it. I got a heater on my Christmas list this year.

Are you able to buy clear plastic windows to put in the blind? That way the wind won’t blow through the Windows

A person could certainly purchase the clear plastic in a fabric store, cut to fit yourself and tape in place.

short term fix yes. If using a bunch would search for a used portable could find one collecting dust cheaper than building the old fashioned homemade portable.

I don’t know why not. All you really need it a windbreak and heat source if it’s a short-term option.

Most ground blinds aren’t really constructed for it. I’m guessing you’ll get a failure in pretty short order, unless you’ve sunk a bunch of money into a ground blind.

I’d just consider picking up a used hub on Craigslist for almost nothing.

the only true dual purpose Blind/Hub house is the Clam Big Foot XL2000T Sportsman camo blind/ hub house. I have one and used it on opening deer hunting weekend and had a big doe come with in 30 yards of me. planning to have it on the ice this season too.
