I’m looking to get something to cook on when I’m out on the ice. I was thinking of just going with a regular small portable grill. But was wondering if anyone had some other ideas?

Have used this in the boat and on ice, always works. Cooks uneven, ignitor is broke, but does the job still.

I throw it everywhere and anywhere so others may look better longer , I test mine real good lol

Prepared food wrapped in foil in front of the buddy heater works well too.

I also use a butane single burner stove on occasion if I just want to fry or warm up something.

For grilling and baking, I use the small rectangle Weber. Add a pizza stone and you can do almost anything on it. Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite morning things to make on it.

I have the Weber Baby-Q. I take it hunting, ice fishing, and even the boat!

For Father’s Day I reveived the Coleman RoadTrip 225 Portable Stand-Up Grill. Larger, comes with a stand. Have used it for tailgates and camping. Packs well, two burners so you can cook things at different heat levels. A little pricey but I anticipate using it for years.

I have the stainless Cabela’s too. She’s been on a ton of trips and probably cooked hundreds of meals.

I’ve definitely gotten my money out of it.

A couple years ago I reamed out the orifice for a little more heat waytogo

An ice fishing company makes a stainless grill to attach to a buddy heater, but I saw this and have done it and it works really well, just be sure not to compromise the ceramic catalyst

I really would love to have a smoker out while fishing in the ice castle. The pellet smokers are pretty heavy and I would need to plug in also. Probably have the room and could plug into generator but still looking for something more portable.

Are you looking for something to use when fishing out of a portable or a hard side?

I use a larger gas grill for the wheelhouse. I purchased a Coleman Fold and Go for fishing out of the portable early and late ice. Have not used it yet, but it was recommended and not very expensive on Amazon.

Interesting thread till I got to this picture…🤮

Sorry I’m far from a food snob but I can’t eat those things.

Weber Q is worth the money. If everyone I know didn’t already have one I’d buy one.

I also run the old stainless cabelas one. Been through alot. Also had the weber q but that one is no longer alive.
Both performed great for many camping and fishing trips.

Jeepers you guys, seems almost un-American to not embrace eating a hot dog. Do you eat brats or any other sausage’s?

There’s a lot more than just lips and ass in those too.

Pictured here is a delightful ice fishing outing in which we grilled a variety of lips, ears, brains, and other assorted entrails all in a convenient easy to eat tubular intestine casing.

Oh and BTW, yes…that’s Spam grilling in the background. So that would include what the Hormel plant shovels and squeegees off the production floor and packs in that cute little blue and yellow can.

Check out the grill though, just to steer this thread back on topic. smash

Have you considered a small black stone griddle? We used one all summer for hotel stays for the kids hockey tournaments. Much more versatile than a grill in my opinion. Can do you meat and tasters all with one surface and the do a great breakfast too.

Very sharp eye B-man, that was in fact my Saga(s) I was enjoying on that glorious day.

In fact I have been sipping on such the same this evening. toast

As long as I’ve come back in the room here, I’ll add another endorsement for the Weber Q series grill.

Although not applicable and relevant to the OP’s query on a viable grill for on ice grilling while ice fishing, I have a Weber Q series electric version and give it a 5 star rating.

Essentially the same design as a propane version, although electric.

Why an electric? Because my little Mille Lacs home has a second level deck/balcony. Although not yet outlawed in Aitkin county, I learned that charcoal or propane fire on such spaces surrounded by wood is a disaster in the making. My SIL torched a garage by leaving an unattended propane grill for a few short minutes.

My endorsement here is not an emphasis on electric so much as it is for the Weber Q design.

Just spent a week camping with a new to me Weber Q and I love it. It was cold and windy and would hold the heat and cook nice and even! Well worth the coin!
