Like other lakes in the area, the fall bite has not materialized yet. I trolled cranks Saturday from 9pm to midnight. We trolled the East and South shore lines. We picked up one 17″ walleye and ten smallmouth. These green footballs were not the species of choice, but they put up a very good fight and even put on an acrobatic show. Most of the fish came from 7-8 ft. of water. The best bait was a blue/chrome #11 huskie jerk. Water temps were in the mid 60s so still a little too warm.
Interestingly, at midnight we checked out some of our mid summer spots in 40 fow and they were still holding fish. Fishing this same area all summer, I am amazed that even in the middle of the night these fish don’t come up into 20′ on the weedlines to feed.
It doesn’t look like I will be on Green again until next year, but I will definitely make more fall trips next year.
