Even though man has produced some awesome music, I don’t think anything can compare to Mother Nature.

Sitting here at the farm, no tv, no Spotify, no Alexa. 1st night of the year to hear the frogs. Few coon chattering, Coyotes sounding off, and waking up to thunder roaring. Doesn’t get much better

I hear you there. I always enjoy hearing the birds flying off and onto the water.

You’re right. Nothing can compare to the sounds of Ma Nature.

Twice in my life I have been standing on a lakeshore when the ice was breaking up. A gentle breeze making a million small shards of ice tap against each other. Each tap makes a sound like a little bell. A million little bells. You stand there taking this all in knowing it will be gone in a matter of hours.

Wow that would be something to take in Steve. Agree Randy when you can get away from the sounds of cars and planes and just take in what’s going on around you it is very peaceful.

I don’t know the birds were going apeshit this morning. They could keep that snarky happy to be here attitude quiet until I’ve had my coffee at least.

I have seen the ice out once and it was amazing. Hearing the Robins singing yesterday brought me back to my youth. Love hearing them sing.

    Randy,
I couldn’t agree more. I kept the door open last night.

Noticed the same thing last night. Stopped by a buddy’s place that overlooks a large slough for some shed beers. Geese honking, swans overhead, frog’s croaking, etc. All in the pitch dark.

We had quite the light show about 4 this morning. Not much rain, but lots of lightning. I started fishing in the dark today and was happy to be serenaded by sandhills just as the light began to appear. Watched a golden eagle pick up a muskrat for breakfast. Assuming it to be frogs, there was some croaking happening just at daylight too.

Watching the world wake up is as much a treat as hearing it. Like hearing a fish splashing as its being reeled in…. both sound and visuals. This was the second morning of seeing a golden eagle. Big, big birds. Beautiful critters. I know that there are a couple, maybe three, nesting pairs of goldens in the Alma area so the ones I am seeing are likely from there. I was closer to Wabasha, both sightings. I see an occasional golden here at home along the river too.

I chased the weather down to the river today but never saw a drop on the windshield or on me. Crappies were hitting pretty well right off in the dark but size wasn’t there. I had three 11″-12″ fish in the pail but wanted four to make dinner and #4 never obliged me so the 3 went back. All on plastic and 1/16 jig.

When I left for home there must have been 20 vehicles along side the road…. perchers.

Agreed Randy. And just slightly further down the list I’d add the sound/smell of a 2 stroke in the morning, and the sound of the drag after a hookset.

If only the tinnitus would allow it . At least i did not commit suicide like the doc said so many people like me do . Life is good even if i can,t hear it . Beats the alternative !

That’s exactly the first thing that came to mind for me as well.

I’d give almost anything to hear the woods wake up without constant tinnitus (and clearly hear every other aspect in life).

Some people complain they can “sometimes” hear their ears ringing in a dead quiet room while laying in bed. I truly envy them.

Mine is so bad I still hear it going 70mph on a snowmobile (wish I was kidding or exaggerating, but unfortunately I’m not at all) ???

I’ve learned to live with it, but it more than sucks. 24/7/365 and never stops.

People have asked me to describe it, and the best analogy I can come up with is when you watch a war movie and a bomb or grenade goes off. Everything gets muffled with constant a ringing tone.

It’s EXACTLY like that but the other sounds aren’t as muffled like in a movie.

I tried the acupuncture thing. It seemed to help some with the intensity, but it was definitely a short term band-aid with no lasting effects.

Didn’t know you were dealing with that. Can’t imagine what either of you guys are going through. Glad it doesn’t keep you from enjoying life and having fun with Hank and Ben.

Thanks John, that seriously means a lot.

There’s a new treatment out there called Lenire, and after writing that post I found out that a clinic up here finally has it peace (wasn’t available the last time I checked)

I’m going to get an appointment set up!

I just got off the phone with the Duluth clinic.

It comes with a price tag that isn’t covered by insurance ($500 for the initial appointment and $5,000 for the device and 12 check-ups over 12 months).

I’m going to do some more research and likely end up doing it if it really does make a significant difference.

I’m also guessing there’s some forums/chat pages out there about it (Reddit/FB/etc) and I’ll get back to you guys with any notable findings.
