Superior or Michigan? Never been but have wanted too for some time now. Thinking of making it happen next summer…spring/summer/fall?
Guide Recommendations?
Spring on superior can be really good. We chased them one weekend this year. But ended up timing just right with a snow storm that shut the fish down.
All around lake Michigan is better for salmon I’ve heard.
Eric Haatja out of Wisconsin on lake Michigan is who I would hire. he thinks outside the box and does guide trips jigging and trolling.
Bman, he is a superior guy like no other. and I know he wants to guide, if it’s not official yet, then maybe you’ll get a great deal
Just got back from Sturgeon Bay, WI on Lake Michigan. The bite is on fire right now for the charters. We struggled with keeping fish pinned but came home with 15 for 2 1/2 days of fishing. Biggest were 22 and 24 lbs.
Salmon are bigger on Lake Michigan from what I’ve heard.
If it’s salmon you want Michigan. If it’s lake trout superior. I’d check out salmon chasers out of two rivers. Mike Finke is both a great fishermen and great guy. You won’t find anyone who works harder to get you on fish. Mid June is normally the best time to go. Mixed bag of fish as well as some big Kings
All depends on what you want. Personally, Ild like to see people come down here and harvest these god forsaken lakers. Sick of them.lakers taking a Kokanee rig on a 3 color over 150 has been the norm. April and may was 4 man limits with a 6 rod set often in 40 minutes. Mid may the kings shown up. June is pretty solid for a mix bag and the thermoclines are setting up. Early aug is generally chasing a bite in deep water. Late Aug/early sept the mature kings start staging.

Those are some hogs Randy. I’m “wishing” for aug as it’s an open month for me…possibly July. Any recommendations for a charter/guide? I’ll check out salmon chasers…I might know the team crush guy but open for suggestions. I think 2 days of fishing will satisfy the crew.
Thanks,
CC
Not a pro by any means, but when I’ve gone on charters on those lakes, superior we got a decent handful of small to mid-size lakers and on Michigan(twice) we got about a dozen decent to nice size king and coho salmon for 2 guys on a half day trip I believe. Fun at both, so no complaints.
Mid June through July would give you the beat opportunity. When you get closer, I can hook you up with some great guys. Who knows, if it works jump in a boat with me
Just got back from Algoma weather was great for the week the fish were there to be caught, for my boat it was spoons and 150 copper on boards, didn’t matter if you were in 50ft out till 150ft, all species were up high. The riggers and dipsy were pretty quiet. The biggest King was 26lb, 19 Laker, some nice Steelhead, and Coho. Great seas and weather was the biggest factor> DK.
Never been over there fishing but have a trip planned for Sept 2-4 with Kinn’s Sport Fishing out of Algoma. Was told that the Kings should be at their heaviest weight by then. Just hoping for good weather!
