…that is where I will be, possibly hitting some lakes Mike LeClaire gave us tips on. Are Lake Trout open that time of year? I think we really want to give that a go. We also probably will be targeting whitefish on the cabin’s lake, as well as bull gills.

Lake Trout opens Jan 12th. You should be good to go. We will be up there the weekend of the 12th for trout opener.

Be sure to bring warm clothes and get ready to enjoy a full day of High School Hockey on the ice, if you do it just right you could set tip ups along the drop and catch fish at the same time.

I hope we make it to the game. I am sure my brother wouldn’t mind trying to fish Pokegama that day. And I wouldn’t mind hitting a mining pit for trout.

Well if you try hitting a mine pit be careful, if the weather stays like this you may want to bring your boat. Stopped by the Tioga Pit on Saturday and there was at least 5 feet of shore ice. I will try to check in on a few for you before then; if not I know a couple spots on Poke you could try for Lakers or head to Caribou Lake up 38.

Like Mike said. The pits are notorious for not freezing well AND having slush on top if the ice. If you are planning on fishing Buckeye I would touch base with Mike for up to date info. That pit has tons of trees and like to eat tackle.

I’ve only fished Tioga. Maybe I’ll go over to Cavanaugh then. I have 1 great memory of that lake as a kid.

I haven’t made it over to Cavanaugh yet bet there is at least one vehicle parked at the walk in point any given day headed back to the lake. So I only have to assume they are catching fish back there.

Just checked a map. I guess I didn’t know where Pokegama was located, I had no idea it is right next to Cavanaugh. For some reason I thought it was north of 6. So we can head over there before or after the game for a few hours. I think it would be a fun tip up lake to see if it is one of those lakes where bass remain fairly active.

Pug, I could be wrong (Mike can correct me). I think the access to Cavanaugh is from 17 where the access to Tioga Pit and Pokegama is from the Tioga Beach Road on the opposite side.

Does Cavanaugh have a launch now? I know it used to only be accessible by canoe. So when I was young we fished the pit for rainbows and walked to Canvanaugh with a canoe.

All for naught. My brother has to work this Friday, so we aren’t going up.

No launch yet Pub. Cavanaugh is accessible by a walking trail from the Tioga Pit landing. The rainbows are still in the Pit and I still haven’t made it to Cavanaugh even though my spear house is set on Pokegama less than half mile from Cavanaugh. I really need to get out there someday.
