The Scout Team was out today, and we finally have safe ice out on Pokegama. We ventured out across the lake toward the islands and found a solid 5 inches of ice. The weight of the snow left a little water flooding the holes but not bad. There are a few spear houses out near shore on steep drops but I would imagine there will be quite a few more houses out by the weekend. If you are heading out in search of Pokegama Walleyes be careful around the islands the normal cracks are already there and there is still open water by the deep holes. We never ventured out to the deep water reefs but hopefully the cold nights we are having will make a for safe scouting as we head over that way in days to come.

We are planning on putting the spear houses out this week and checking out a little gem we stumbled across this summer for some walleyes. Sure hope they are there for the ice fishing.

Finally the Lake Pokegama early ice walleye extravaganza is upon us. Should hopefully have some reports in the next couple of days on the walleye and spearing action.
