Well other obligations have kept my time on the water fairly limited the past week I was able to sneak out a few times and do a little fishing on Pokegama for a couple of hours at a crack.
I did manage to try a little rap fishing one night with no prevail. I trolled around the islands and the shoreline in Sugar Bay and caught a lot of weeds. The weeds seem to be higher than normal. I only had a couple hours to fish and would have liked to fish more on the break but did all of my fishing that night on the flats.
The couple other times I snuck away was early morning to see what all the hoopla was about and did manage to find the eater walleyes both times. One day a few passes along the weed edge with gold hammered spinners and crawlers produced a couple walleyes, then we tried a deepwater reef with rigs and leeches and picked a few more smaller walleyes and one nice 26″.
The next morning I tried the Bunny Bar in Tioga Bay and marked a lot of fish along the weed edge. We missed a few fish using spinners and leeches. Pulled a rookie mistake that morning and left the crawlers on the kithcen counter. about 7am we moved to another deep water reef and were able to pick up a few eaters before heading in to adhere to my other obligations for the weekend.
I have heard the bluegill bite on Pokegama has been heating up and plan to check that out this week with my daughter as she has been itching to get in on the action.
As far as other area lakes I haven’t heard much this past week from anywhere but Lake Winnie, Deer and Sugar.
Had a couple buddies on Sugar and Deer that had no luck and Winnie has had mixed reports. They find the fish one day and the next day they spend doing a lot of searching. The eater are hard to come by with quite a few fish in the slot. Check out the Lake Winnie forum for more on that report.
I will report back with the panfish bite later this week.
GOOD LUCK FISHING!!!
