i posted this same post on the hummingbird thread w/o knowing one existed for my q:

Looking at navionics vs. lakemaster- fish primarily:

    Oahe 50%
    Devils Lake 10%
    Leech 10%
    Sak 5%
    LOW 5%
and the rest are small mn lakes that I know the contours forwards and back.

The one prem navionics chip has all the lakes I am looking for – its on sale at cabelas — if I buy lakemaster I am looking at 3 chips 3x cost. What is the real difference between the two?

I run with a LCX-27C (yes, I need to upgrade) and run with both chip manufactures. I honestly like each of them. On certain bodies of water I prefer one over the other… In most cases, I do run with the Lakemaster.

In your situation, I would research what contours each provides and figure out what kind of detail you want/need… Then compare that to your budget.

Without doing the research on the lakes you fish, I would predict you will get a little more detail with the Lakemaster; but that comes with three chips and three times the cost.

    Hope this helps!
