GPS/compass puck mounting location

I mounted my Humminbird AS GPS HS sensor puck up front by my trolling motor just because it was an easy spot to wire from and there was a hole seemingly just for this purpose right there. It turns out that trolling motor magnets badly interfere with the compass function of the puck. I researched at length where the best spot for this thing would be and nobody mentioned this potential problem so here is your warning. Don’t mount it anywhere near the trolling motor!

When I installed mine I watched a couple YouTube videos and they recommended using a compass and moving to various locations to see if you got interference. Just had to move mine about 2 feet from the TM to work perfect. Also the installation instructions do say to keep away from magnetic interference.
