After hearing Beaver Dam this Beaver Dam that I said screw it and bought two Originals, to help chase anything that swims here in Ontario. Anyways holy heavy duty Batman. My grankids grankids should be able to use these bad boys if they replace a tattered red flag and giver some grease haha . Money well spent in my eyes, all jokes aside the spool seams butter smooth and should to be an awesome tool to add to my arsenal this winter. Any tips or tricks with Beaver Dams? Thanks in advance!

Play around with the flag release “T” settings. You should see the different sizes on each side. You can go from pretty tight to very loose buy moving the setting out or in on the “T”, one side or the other.

    Good Luck!

Also raising and lowering the shaft will allow you to fine tune the release even more. And depending on which side the flag is on in relation to the direction the release spins will give you more or less tension. So many adjustments to be had.

Store in a cold place. In summer some even put in freezer. If the grease gets too warm it will leak out. Same as most all tipups with under water spools except to re-grease beaver dams you have to un-solder spool.

Don’t see the point in using a drill to wind in 20 yds of tip up line

Sold all my originals, 16 of them 30-40yrs after purchase for a nice profit.

Taping half of a paint stick to a spade bit/drill to remove line, on anything, works like a charm.

    Then obviously don’t.
Works for me to wind the line up and hold tension on the line

    X2

Since the grease ran out of mine, I haven’t fixed them and they are not the same

Do not store them in a bucket. Lay them flat and keep them in a cool spot. Also you can melt the solder on the end of the spool.
    Take them apart.
    Clean them.
    Fresh low temp grease.
    Solder back on
    Good as new

A lot of people already have a small cordless drill with them on the ice for drilling ice anchors – if you do, this is a PRO TIP and equals more time with bait in the water. If you don’t, not sure it’s worth lugging one out with you, but to each his own!
