Got my food plot in just ahead of the rain this weekend.

Final prep and planting of my food plot today. Trying new stuff: Imperial Whitetail “No plow” in most of the plot with IW “Winter Greens” around two stand areas for late season.

Tried to make a tooth drag and it was a fail. 3/8” landscape spike bent instantly backwards once I put a 100lb log on top. Teeth wouldn’t dig without it. Need up just using my regular drag. Anyone got any bright ideas for stronger spikes?

    Bring on the rain!!

Members of the brassicas family (radish, turnip, rapeseed, beets, etc) need time to mature. Keep in mind Whitetail Institute is based in Mississippi, so in general, my experience is that their planting times and growing methods need a lot of alteration to work here in the northern tier.

Generally, I tell customers to plant brassicas mixes around July 4 for the northern half of MN and WI and before July 20 for the southern half of these 2 states. You may not always need this much time to mature, but it can just as easily go the other way and due to drought or poor conditions, the extra time can be a huge benefit.

It is very easy to underestimate just how much weight and force it takes to dig dirt. When I first got in to food plotting, I got an ATV disc. Then I added 200 pounds of weight to get it to actually dig…

The problem is any tines that are strong enough to dig in more than about an inch will stop your 4 wheeler or put major strain on the transmission.

Have you looked at the Grondhog or Battle Ax disc?
