gopro powered off 12v battery?

Im heading up to Winnipeg next week and have a couple spare 12v batteries from flashers and was wondering if there is a way to power a gopro off of them. I normally use the battery to power the light bar in my flip over shack but I won’t be fishing at night so I was going to try and hook the gopro up to them for longer battery life. I did a search and couldn’t find an adapter or connector to go from the 12v to usb…any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wire in a cigarette lighter and use a USB car charger.

I run an external power bank. That’ll keep my GoPro running for days. Put it in my pocket and run a cord from the GoPro to the charger and I’m all set. Just to keep up on the SD cards is the only issue then. And keeping everything somewhat warm.

These are what I use , not the same power bank but I can’t find the one I bought years ago , works great for me, usually outlasts the 32 SD card

What model GoPro do you have? I have a Hero3 Silver edition and I don’t see how I could plug any power cord into the camera, to power the camera, when the camera is inside it’s clear case. What am I missing?

In order to plug any cord into my camera, I must first remove the camera from its case. The case has the integral mounting fingers used to attach the case to a headband, chest band, gun mount, etc. Can’t really use my camera without it’s clear external case.

Or is everyone just talking about recharging the GoPro battery by using a 12 volt power source as opposed to actually powering the camera during use?

I’ve got the Hero 5 Black. However all you need to do is get a frame case.

Here’s one I found for ya, cheap and will work just fine. But it allows you to plug things into it when running it. You’ll also get a lot better audio without the waterproof case on it.

Note: It will NOT be waterproof with this case though, so don’t stick it in the water! But I run a chest mount with mine and have it plugged in most of the time. That way it’ll record whenever!

EDIT: Found one,,,,,,,, Learn something new every day. This will great for my Muskie trips.

Sorry about that, I had an ebay link for one that was like 2$ with free shipping, but yes, they’re great! Good for those days you really grind it out to find fish!

Thanks guys, I decided to run it off an external power bank rather than the 12v. Power bank is much lighter and fits in my jacket pocket. We’ll see how well it holds up in -10 to -25 temps on big windy next week. I think I’ll be in my legend Xl with the heater on 99% of the time so that should help with battery life. I run my hero3 silver on a five minute loop and when something good happens I stop it and start again. Works great for musky fishing where there is a lot of down time between moments that I want to keep.

This. Only problem I run into when doing this is that it plugs into the same port as my mic so you can’t run both at the same time. I usually run two cameras though so I can put the mic on the other camera and use that audio for both.

As for the cold, I’m not sure which bank charger you bought but mine is in the $40 ballpark and I left it out in my truck the last two nights in this crazy cold (uninsulated garage), and it had just as much battery life as it did from the last time I used it.

Yeah, I’m not impressed with the built-in mic that the hero 5 has. As a matter of fact, it’s completely worthless. I deal with it and doctor it as much as I can in post-production. If I were to run an external mic on my gopro, I’d plug the mic in and switch batteries out. Then just run the power bank to the charger and put the batteries on the charger.

I run the extra batter pack on the back of the go pro with the extended cage. I watched a video where the guy drilled holes and plugged his mic into the side of the GoPro and plugged the battery pack into the larger back battery. Looked like a great setup…

I run a separate solar powered battery pack. It’s about the size of a phone. I put it in the back net portion of my graphs softpack and plug it into my gopro. I can go all day and never worry about the gopro power or phone as the pack is always being charged. Best to start with a charged pack though as it does take forever to charge via solar unfortunatly if the pack is drawn down to far.

I use the same pack when I travel for work. I can charge my phone probably 6-8 times.
