GoPro Accessories: OEM or Aftermarket?

My family gave me a GoPro Hero7 camera for my birthday. There are an overwhelming number of accessories available for these cameras, and it would be easy to spend a lot of money on it. I’ve decided on two or three things I need and a couple more I might want. Now a question: The accessories sold by GoPro are darned expensive. Similar items made by different manufacturers are significantly less. However, I don’t want to drop my camera in the lake because I ‘saved’ money on a cheap mount.

Any opinions on the matter? Should I stick with GoPro hardware or is the other stuff useable?

    Many thanks

the non branded accessories are just as good Steve and you cant tell any difference in them.
I bought an all in one kit from amazon for around twenty bucks,I cant remember how many pieces came with it but it was a bunch.
at the skydive zone where I work part time during the summer uses them as well and havent had any problems with them.

    Steve,

I’d just have the “family” buy you the good stuff for your Christmas presents. santa

Not your fault “they” bought you the Go Pro in the first place. That’s on them…keep it that way! devil

You know it Andy! For example there’s a lens that snaps on the front that lets you take close ups, like taking pictures of flies. No end to what you can get LOL.

Gopro is the front runner of action cameras for sure, just wish they werent so danged high priced.
I paid over three hundred for a hero3 several years ago and thats nothing compared to today.
next time I will go the refurbished route and save about half the cost.

I went on ebay and got a huge mounting kit with all kinds of different mounts, clamps, a chest harness and head mount along with the 3m sticker mounts for like $30. All of that would have been well over $100 bucks if it was GoPro brand. It has all worked very well and I use it most of my trips on the boat or the ice.

You can get some lightly used gopros on ebay for steals. I got a hero 4 with an extra battery and micro SD a year ago for $90. Looked brand new. Just make sure the lens isn’t beat up and you’re good to go.

Great another old dude with new technology…

I have both gopro and non gopro accessories. Both will work, gopro accerories are built better.
Do your research, read reviews and decide. I bought my non oem on amazon and like most of them.

I have an extra mount that uses the Scotty rod mount bases. Yours if you want it.

Please turn off the voice command on your gopro, I don’t need to hear you yelling “Gopro take Picture” when I am fishing your favorite East metro bass lake.

LOL….Yea the GoPro is a little deaf, you have to be right on top of it to make the voice commands work. So no yelling. Or yelling and swearing. It doesn’t have a flash, and I do a lot of night fishing so I’ll be using the Canon point-and-shoot quite a bit yet.

You want to see an old guy and new technology, you should see my new truck. There are buttons on the dash, I still don’t know what they do. It’s like flying the Space Shuttle.

I ended up buying an accessory kit from Best Buy. Seems to have the stuff I’ll need, like the tripod adapter.

What do you guys use for video editing software?

I use GoPro Studio as of right now but am looking at other free editors as I can’t overlay audio from one camera and over another camera’s video taken from another angle. As you may know the battery life is brutal on GoPros and the fix is an external battery pack, however it plugs into the same port as an external mic so you can’t have both. GoPro studio is very simple and GoPro quick is even simpler but only does one minute clips I believe.

I’d love to use Premier Pro from Adobe but it’s like $40 a month. My youtube channel isn’t making $$ so unless that changes I’ll be sticking to the free stuff.

If you have any questions with editing, feel free to DM me.

Thank you, I might take you up on that!

I haven’t loaded any of the Go Pro software as I’m currently running windows 7 and it isn’t supported. I’ve been playing with “Open Shot” video editor, making slow progress.
