There you have it….the official death of Gopher Hockey in the State of Minnesota. The new play-off format is a 2 out of 3 series. The Gophers play Penn State in the opening round. Unless you go to Penn State or pay to watch it you won’t see it. Thats right, pay per view only for Gopher Hockey. Not available on the Big Money network either.

All the other hockey programs in the state should be sending cards & gifts to the Big Ten for killing hockey in the state of hockey.

wave wave wave bye bye Gophers, I for one am done with ya.

Just cause I’m curious Dutch, how does the PPV work? Via internet or cable/satellite provider? I won’t be paying for it either way, just curious. I’m thinking after they get the returns of this decision it won’t last long?

Dan I’m not sure how it works. By the time I finished reading the article in the paper I was so damn mad I didn’t really process the “how to” part of it.

I wonder if it has to do with the big ten losing cable providers. Sling, what I have, is one who has no contract at all with the big ten.

I tried to watch a gopher football game on FS1 one day and it was blacked out for Sling subscribers because sling didn’t have a renewed contract with the big ten.

Maybe instead of the end of the end, it’s the beginning of the beginning.

Earlier this year I joked that the mens team would be able to move over to Ridder Arena (womens rink) because attendance would be dropping. Now i’m not sure they will be able to fill Ridder in future years.

Fox Sports North will be airing the games now.

The Big Ten hockey conference is the biggest joke out there.Nobody wants to watch Michigan State play the Gophers. When the gophers,UND and most Minnesota Schools were apart of the WCHA it used to create such great hockey games to watch. Every game was a battle.

An absolutely ridiculous situation that ONLY the U could get themselves into.

This whole conference switch was supposed to have been underpinned by an increased revenue stream from centralizing Big 10 hockey on the Big 10 Network. The problem is that hockey is on equal footing with Women’s Lacrosse on the retarded Big 10 Network.

Guess what the Big 10 network will be playing while Fox Sports North rakes in the ad revenue of the Gopher’s game?

They will run and re-run their lame Sports Center ripoff, “The B1G Show” for five straight hours. Yes, that is correct. There’s a key conference hockey matchup and the retarded Big 10 Network will be showing re-runs of its own production that could air anytime.

The Minnesota Taxpayers are getting hosed, as usual, on the U’s bungling. This conference switch has been a disaster for U hockey, but the untold story is how many MILLIONS of dollars has this mismanagement cost the MN taxpayer?

Minnesota needs to install an elected oversight board that the Board of Regents has to report to. There is ZERO accountability at the U right now because only the U polices the U.

    Grouse:

I am not sure that the U was the culprit in this mess… I lost my hockey Badgers going on ten years ago now… First it was you cannot watch it tape delayed on public tv, then foxsportsnorthwi picked them up, but a contract iwth the Bucks undermined that, then the B1G Network proposed their poop!!! I actually had to become a Gopher hockey fan just to watch college hockey!!!

IMHO, the B1G and its need for greed is the one who has killed college hockey for the Midwest, for sure… I for one would still watch MSU play the Gophs anytime and remember the days before the WCHA got split up the first time, that MI, MSU and Notre Dame were all in the WCHA!!!

That was when the the CCHA started and stole those three from our conference. During the 70’s anyway, it was pretty much the ECHA and the WCHA. Every Badger home series was televised tape delayed on the state’s public tv network and even if ya didn’t get to the game(s), you were assured of watching it at 10:30 p.m. and then again on Sunday a.m. When I was at school in NE Iowa, I would go early to the local watering hole and pull up the corner barstool and be ready to watch my Badgers. Kids from MN that went to school with me couldn’t believe that I was that big a fan.

That’s my piece anyway, its the B1G, not the Board of Regents at the U…

On another note, I am just about done watching pay-per-view tv anyway. I can watch all my fishing shows on line using the local library’s bandwidth. My DirectTv is now averaging $150 per month and I was able to get it back down to $111, but that will be back up there in 6 months anyway. With all the crap that is on the news and no decent sports anymore, I can get my weather off the net!!!

The kicker to me is Big Ten network not being available in standard cable packages, only in the Plus or Premium’s, and then to watch this game all you need is to download the Big1G Plus app for the low low price of $9.95. Oh and the Big 1G being comprised primarily of state funded universities, but I digress…

p.s. this info was from KFAN/Dan Barreiro/Justin Gaard yesterday who were talking to Lou Nanne, and Lou Nanne said Wisconsin was the main push from the Big 10 to separate from the WCHA due to Penn State.

I was a diehard UM Hockey fan as a teenager and in my early 20’s. After the conference change and the unwillingness by the U to get rid of Luchia, I’ve been done with them. I’d rather watch our USHL team live than the gophers on TV.

Well, either way if they don’t win this whole tournament they are done for the year. At #9 in the pairwise, it’s going to take a miracle for them to get in. If they lose any games they’ll slip in the pairwise. Anything above 11 or 12 will end their season for sure.

Still don’t understand why the Big Ten just would keep the same schedule for the weekly games … Friday and Saturday night a 7. Lock it in. Broadcast regionally. You never know when they are playing.
Lucia has to go … the rink is half empty! It is a joke.

According to USCHO and others, the Gophers are a virtual lock for the tournament. Only something completely fluky keeps them out.

Gophers, UND and BC done for the year. Who’d a thunk?

I said if they don’t finish 11 or 12 in the pairwise you will never make the tournament.

Well, I’d like to say I’m disappointed, but I’m not. I feel bad for the kids, they work hard.

The slide will only intensify from here as they continue to lose the top kids. I never realized how big a deal them being on TV twice a week was to recruiting until the Big$$ fiasco came along.

Good luck to St. Cloud State, bring it home guys!!

Because moving games to Tuesday night or Saturday afternoon fills a broadcast slot on their network. Also, the rink was half empty prior to Big$$ coming in to play bc tickets moved from people being the season tix holders to corporations. Lou Nanne talks about it frequently on KFAN and how the corps aren’t making sure the tix are getting used.

Congrats to SCSU on a great season and #1 ranking! Growing up a Husky fan we used to be pumped just to make the tournament, what Bob Motzko has done is truly amazing. Bring it home!
