We have this raccoon at our farm that I have been getting pictures of all fall. He visits the waterholes often. Goofy part is he travels around on his front legs. See pics. When he is drinking he gets down on all 4 feet, but when he walks he does a hand stand on his front legs and walks like that. It’s weird as heck and I don’t know why he does it. Anyone got any ideas?

Weird it looks like a monkey walking that way.

Most logical explanation is that it’s actually a Chupacabra.

Reminds me of the bear in NJ that walked upright because the front paws were injured. Does the racoon seem lame when down on all fours drinking? I had one in my back yard a few years ago that had an injured back leg and it seemed to balance on the front two, but still got around (and on my deck to torment the dogs) very very well.

Can’t really tell if he has any injury to the back end. No, he doesn’t seem lame when drinking.

I’m really glad you have pictures of this. If you had just told us that you’d seen a racoon walking on its front legs, we’d have had to pack you off to a nice place where kind people in white coats will help.

I’m going to guess injury that makes it difficult for him to use his back legs.

That’s some incredible balance! I am amazed that something hasn’t killed it. Maybe it’s an evolutionary advantage? In a million years, all the raccoons will be walking on their hands!!!
