I was talking to Little Danny Oberg, a neighbor over the weekend.
He was boating through Red Wing and was flagged down to the Water Patrol boat.
Dan and his wife were scrambling to figure out what they were doing or not doing to have the Water Patrol want to talk to them.
Turns out the Water Patrol gave their two kids coupons to the local Dairy Queen because they were wearing their PFD’s.
Kudo’s to the Sheriff’s Office for using positive reinforcement!

Very nice! Great positive reinforcement for the kids. Thank for sharing this story. More officials need to do those kinds of things.
Tyler and I were fishing P2 last year and had a similar thing happen. The sheriff pulled up for the usual check and at the end Tyler was given a DQ coupon for wearing his PFD.
Now we need to start doing this for adults.
That’s great! My kids were lucky enough to get the same treatment a few years ago on the Mississippi North of Sartell. Sure helps kids think that wearing a PFD is a good thing.
Now its automatic with my boys. They don’t even hop in the boat without one on. Heck, I even saw 2 of them sitting in the boat in the garage with their life jackets on pretending to fish.

I wear mine 99% of the time BK so I don’t know what I would do with all that Spam if that is what the adult coupon was for. 
DQ coupon for wearing one or a ticket for not wearing one.
