Sad to see the old Ozzie’s Restaurant and Motel leveled to the ground and trucked off. Many good memories of breakfast with friends and meeting up for fishing trips there. Will miss the home made food with huge portions and reasonable prices. Always left there stuffed!!

    ….and what’s up with that?

So the construction signs for Hwy 27 from Isle to Onamia went up early August. Repaving the approx. 10 mile stretch there. Well, I took that rout over to Reed this weekend and nothing has started! Didn’t even see any trucks staged – nothing!!

Construction delays could have something to do with the nearly constant rain we’ve had since about April? Everybody I know who works outdoors, farming, construction, blacktop, etc is running behind and praying for a long, dry, drawn out fall with no snow until they get caught up which for most will be sometime in March.

Gheez, I remember going into Ozzie’s as a kid with my grandfather to buy bait. Friday night before opener everyone was in a good mood with anticipation of the next day. Loved walking the isles looking at stuff.

They’ve actually been doing a lot of work on the HY 27 stretch from 169 over to Isle. The whole section has had dozens of culverts replaced getting ready for the new asphalt. That needs to happen first. I heard that once the blacktop starts going down it happens really quickly, because they will have a machine chewing up the old surface, followed by the paving machine right behind. A buddy of mine is working on the project.

Haven’t been up there in 20 years but ozzie’s was my first official job. Just a dishwasher wasn’t there long. Funny story a few weeks into the job was told they didn’t have any work for me, no biggie. I played football with a couple guys working there they told me I was let go because I didn’t fit in their click. Later I ran into the cooks they told me the same thing. A couple years later I was working at McDonald’s in garrison and the manager that let me go started there as a crew member and I was his trainer. I asked him about the story and he said “you weren’t supposed to know about that but it was dotty’s idea.” 😄😄😄
