The day was perfect: mostly overcast with the sun peaking in and out and a breeze. Pre warm front suggested it was going to be a good day but at first all on got was casting practice for the first hour. The Crappie Magnet grub that my partner and I did well with the day before on a different lake (over 140 fish between us) couldn’t get a strike. Just as I was going to call it quits I decided to try some home made designs that have proven themselves in the past. This one I call my cello tail design.
The next lure to catch gills, crappie and small bass was a curl tail grub by itself or rigged on an overhead spinner:
As usual the Slider Worm did good even on the overhead spin:
I cast a grub body with a Trout Magnet tail attached:
A GY Kut Tail Worm added to a grub body always has done well:
In a few hours I caught over two dozen. The heat got to me and I ran out of drinking water, but hey, at least the day was a big success catching fish on a variety of lure designs in water as shallow as 3.5′ to 7′. I’m still amazed the Crappie Magnet only caught one fish considering how well it catches 4 species of fish in another lake any time I go.
