Just got back from three days on Vermilion, some rain, hail, wind, Bear sighting, but good couple days fishing. Short fish were deeper, nicer ones 4-10’ of water on wind swept points. They didnt seem to care what you threw at them, when you found the fish, they were hungry

Great report Dave!! Never fished Vermillion and if its not too far of drive thinking about hitting it the third week of June while I am near Bemidji.
Worth the drive that time of year??May 21, 2022 at 10:06 pm #2126014It can be a very different bite in June, a lot of fish move out to mid lake humps vs a better shallow bite. But June is a good month and usually a good bite up there.
The good part about Vermilion is the beauty and uniqueness, you can have a great
time exploring and not catching fish.Worth a drive? Probably, but lots of great water close to Bemidji too, so it depends how much time you have.

You are right about Bemidji, I took a flight over it years ago and was astounded how many lakes over a thousand acres in size are within a twenty minute drive there are in that area!!
After that I had no desire to drive another ten hours into Canada.May 21, 2022 at 10:35 pm #2126024My college roommate lives in Bemidji, guides, fishes tournaments and prints mortgages when he has time. I like living in the cities, but there are times when I am a little jealous

Also good work on Vermillion. We went up twice last year and did okay. Not as good I was hoping but okay. What a beautiful lake!

Headed up next week for first time in 20 years…
Mine was long time ago too. Dont want to age myself too much but I graduated in 97 how about you? Sheesh 25 year anniversary, didnt even realize it.

Worth the drive that time of year??Sheldon I think you need to cross off a few lakes closer to Bemidji before taking the 3 hour drive one-way to Vermillion. Leech, Cass, Winnie and Red are all much closer for big lakes (and thousands of great smaller ones), although I agree there is something special about those Canadian Shield lakes!

Ha! Then we likely crossed paths. Small world. Love that school and area. I would have stayed if there were any opportunities there for me.
